From this cartoon, we can see that at the top end of the river,is a chemical factory and a paperrnaking factory which send out and poisonous wastes. And the river has been seriously polluted, be seen from the color of it. Along this "black" river, there area few people selling fresh water which must have been taken fromfar away places.
At the first glance, it is very strange to us how can people sell water along the river, but this is the case, because the water in this river is undrinkable. This presents a serious social problem--environmental pollution. With the development of economy, our living standards have been greatly improved. But we can' t ignore the fact the air we take in and the water we drink today are not as fresh and clean as they used tobe.
Some kinds of pollution can even be deadly to people. It is high time that we took some measures to solve the problem.I think we can first call people's attention to this problem so thatthey will be aware of the serious consequences of it. Then,we can passcertain laws to restrain the factories from sending out wastes.

We realize that if too many fish are taken from the sea,there will soon be none left.Yet,with modern fishing methods,more and more fish are caught.We know that if too many trees are cut down,forests will disappear.Yet,we continue to use powerful machines to cut down more and more trees.We see that if rivers are polluted with waste products,we will die.Yet,waste products are still put into rivers.We know that if the population continues to rise at the present rate,in a few years,there won't be enough food.What can we do to solve these problems?
If we eat more vegetables and less meat,there will be more food available.Land for crops feeds five times more people than land where animals are kept.
Our natural resources will last longer if we learn to recycie them.
The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth control.
Finally,if we educate people to think about the problems we shall have a better and cleaner planet in the future.

So far, traffic restriction has been put into effect for more than one year in Beijing. And people do witness the changes. But as to its influence on the environment, no agreement has been reached yet.
The following opinions have been popular among the people. Many people believe that traffic restriction brings evangel to the environment since it means fewer cars on the road, thus less waste gas and resource consumption. Some are pessimistic and want more radical regulations, because they consider the change is too conservative, therefore, the positive change to the environment is too minor. Still a small group of people have been fighting for some exact calculation between the positive effect to the environment and the inconvenience caused by the restriction.
As for me, Better small than never . Since we have been aware of the seriousness of the situation, we should take up our own responsibilities respectively: the government better public traffic system and the citizens follow the necessary regulations. Only in this way will the environment and traffic be upgraded together.
