要想寫好英語作文，提高寫作水平，筆者認為應從以下幾個方面著手。
一、廣泛閱讀，認真模仿
寫作是一個用語言表達思想的實踐過程，寫一篇文章會涉及到很多知識，如詞匯、句法等。寫作是一種輸出行為。如果沒有足夠的輸入，要想輸出好的文章是很難的。只有往腦海里輸進了大量的詞匯、句型和各種語法知識，才能寫出好的文章。因此，閱讀對寫作起著至關重要的作用。
在閱讀時，應該把一些精妙的東西抄錄下來，如一些好的詞組、句型，并經常翻看，把收集到的短語及句型轉化為自己寫作時可用的材料。用學過的.短語進行造句，并舉一反三，用不同的單詞或句子表達同一思想或同一含義，使寫出來的文章更有風采，更加生動。
如在介紹自己的愛好時，可以說： I like ， I'm interested in ， I'm fond of ， I'm crazy about ， I take pleasure in 等。
總之，熟記和背誦一些精彩的句子或段落，這樣做，既可以模仿句型，又可以培養英語語感，從而提高寫作水平。
二、換句型，變結構，進行多樣化訓練
英語中有倒裝句、強調句、非謂語動詞和各種從句等。這些都可以用到寫作中來，通過不同句式的交叉使用，增加句子的層次感和節奏感，使句子靈活、簡潔、富于表現力。寫作時可以使用下列手段，使句子更加生動簡潔。
