　　It was my first day at the university. Carrying bags of luggage, I walked slowly into the dormitory building. I looked door after door for my name. At last I found it. In the room, there was already a girl making her bed.

　　Smiling shyly, she greeted me with "how do you do".Then, she continued her work, paying no more attention to me."What a stuck up fellow", I thought. Then I began to examine the room. It was no different from any other room I had seen.But it had been thoroughly cleaned by my new roommate, no doubt.

　　Minutes later, I started to examine her. She was thin, short and dark. Her hair was in a completely disastrous mess like a bunch of straw. Her dirty clothes and tired look were clearly signs of a long journey. Well, her 2＇shirt was too big for her and her trousers were a bit short, which made her look funny.Furthermore, she wore a pair of rubber scandals, which were indeed out of fashion. In a word, she did not look like a smart freshman at all. "A yokel", I concluded.

　　The second time she spoke, her accent told me that she was from the south. "Shall I help you to get your luggage from the ground floor?" I did not refuse since I really needed help. Wow!She was quick in action. Before I said "Thanks", she had already walked out of the room and was soon far ahead of me.

　　"A good guy," I said to myself, "I will make friends with her. "I hurried and caught up with her.

　　星期五，我早早地起床，吃完早飯，就去陸軍總醫院參加學校組織的“英語節”活動。

　　我們班表演演唱圣誕歌曲，彩排的.時候，因為沒有上過舞臺，我心里很緊張，但是音樂一響起，整個人就跟著音樂唱起來、動起來，緊張的感覺一下子就沒有了。

　　到了正式表演時，隨著音樂響起，場內出現兩位圣誕老人給現場的觀眾派禮物，之后我們的表演就正式開始了，大家都表現得非常賣力，現場的氣氛達到了高潮，演出非常成功。

　　這次的“英語節”辦得很成功。通過這次表演也讓我感覺到無比的歡快，今后，我一定要多參加類似的活動，不斷地鍛煉自己。

　　The heights which great man reach and keep are not attained by a sudden flight.

　　Most of us feel envious of the famous and successful man. We do not understand why they are so popular and honored while we are mere simple common folks. In our misconception, we think that people are prosperous because they are especially gifted or that they are "just lucky".

　　All these have taken root in our stubborn minds, and we refuse to believe that most great men have a mind which is the same as, or perhaps even simpler and duller than that of ours.

　　Yet, their triumphs are great. Why? Because they are apt to fight difficulties with perseverance without fatigue, undergo sufferings without minding the wounds; they realize that hardships form the road that they must pass through before reaching their destination. Their endurance is more powerful than that of ours for the simple reason that they submit without complaint to each storm in life.

　　To illustrate this, a good example is the adventure of Columbus. What a miserable state he was in before the discovery of the New World. First, it is the problem of getting the ship. It was no easy job. People thought he was crazy with nothing but imagination. When finally he was given the vessel, its crew created new difficulties. It consisted of men of different nationalities and they were unruly. When halfway on the voyage in the place of nowhere, they ran out of food and water. Had Columbus fallen into despair, America might have still remained unknown today.

　　All of us wish for ti bright future and hope to master a useful career. Those who persist in remaining in idleness will never fulfil their ambitions, "No pains, no gains" is a motto with rnuch rneaning. Meditate and live by it.

　　It’s well-known to us that the Zhuhai Hong Kong and Macao Bridge is being built in China. Of course it is not only well praised but also resulting in much doubt as well. Its advantages and disadvantages can be listed as follows.

　　Some hold the view that it is 50 kilometers long(the longest bridge in the world)and it must be a big challenge for the engineers to overcome the technical problems . Besides, the investment of the whole project is up to 72.6 billion. If we use the huge money for the western poor areas, we can help them to live a better life to some degree. Finally, it will have a negative effect on the natural environment.

　　However, it is true that some show much support to the project. They have sufficient reasons for it.Firstly,after finishing the project, the one-hour economic circle will be realized and the local economy of all sides can benefit each other. Secondly,the bridge will be required to be the best one and become a landmark which is an attractive scenic spot. Most important of all, there will be a profound and significant meaning to carry out “one country, two systems”smoothly.

　　Personally speaking, building the bridge brings more advantages than disadvantages, so I am in favor of it.
