　　Even though the world is similar every hour, every day. Even though the burden on our shoulders is hard to stand, we’d better be good to ourselves. Under the dark pressure, we’re easy to assume the worst. Sometimes the world appears grey, indifferent and even evil in our blue eyes. However, it’s not nearly that bad. In fact, we’re easy to get satisfied. Hardships never ramble anywhere. Happiness comes through the door you didn’t know you left open. What we need are quite simple. We like a gentle breeze, which blows slightly, getting our hairs to float in the air. We like clear stars, blinking their eyes against the velvet darkblue curtain, telling us an ancient legend.

　　We like the setting sun hidden behind masses of scarlet clouds, creating the last beauty ofa day…So don’t be pessimistic when you’re sad or tired, raise your head, and take a look at the babyblue sky. 　　The coaches were bewildered by his failure because he possessed all the characteristics of a superb athlete,but he couldnt seem to incorporate those advantages into a coordinated effort.He seemed to have become disconnected from his potential.His future seemed darkest one day when he had already stuck out his first time at bat.Then he stepped up to the batters box again and quickly ran up two strikes.

　　The catcher called a time-out and ran to the pitchers mound for a conference.While they were busy, the umpire,standing behind the plate,spoke casually to the boy.Then play resumed, the next pitch was thrown —and the young man knocked it out of the park.That was the turning point.From then on, he played the game with a new confidence and power that quickly drew the attention of the parent team,and he was called up to the majors.

　　On the day he was leaving for the city,one of his coaches asked him what had caused such a turnaround.The young man replied that it was the encouraging remark the umpire had made that day when his baseball career had seemed doomed.“He told me I reminded him of all the times he had stood behind my dad in the batters box,”the boy explained.“He said I was holding the bat just the way Dad had held it.And he told me,‘I can see his genes in you;you have your fathers arms.After that, whenever I swung the bat,I just imagined I was using Dads arms instead of my own.”

　　It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The creeks and streams were long gone back into the earth. If we didnt see some rain soon, we would lose everything. It was on this day that I learned the true lesson of sharing and witnessed the only miracle I have ever seen in my life.

　　I was making lunch for the family when I saw my 6-year old son, Billy, walking toward the woods. I could only see his back. He wasnt walking with his usual carefree1) air2). He was obviously walking with great effort, trying to be as still as possible. Minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out again toward the house. I went back to make sandwiches, thinking that whatever he had been doing was completed. Moments later, however, he was once again walking in that unusual way toward the woods. This activity went on for an hour. Finally I couldnt take it any longer. I crept3) out of the house and followed him.

　　He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked, being very careful not to spill the water he carried. I sneaked4) close as he went into the woods. Branches and thorns slapped his little face but he did not try to avoid them. He might have a much higher purpose, I thought. As I came closer, I saw the most amazing sight. Several large deer stood in front of him. Billy walked right up to them, at the sight of which I almost screamed for him to get away. A huge buck5) was dangerously close. But the buck did not threaten him nor even move as Billy knelt down. And then I saw a tiny baby deer lying on the ground, obviously suffering from thirst and heat, lift its head with great effort to lap up6) the water in my boys hands.

　　When the water was gone, Billy jumped up to run back to the house. I followed him back to a spigot7). Billy opened it and a small trickle8) began to creep out. He knelt there, letting the drip slowly fill up his "cup".

　　And now I knew whats going on. The week before, he had made the same trouble with our horses, which caused him a lecture from his father about the importance of not wasting water. That should be the reason he didnt ask me for help. It took almost 20 minutes for the drops to fill his hands. When he stood up and turned back, I was there in front of him. His eyes were filled with tears. "Im not wasting," was all he said. This time, I joined him, with a small pot of water from the kitchen. I let him tend to9) the baby deer alone for it was his job while I just stood on the edge of the woods watching. As the tears that rolled down my face began to hit the ground, they were suddenly joined by other drops...and more drops...and more. I looked up at the sky. It was as if God, himself, was weeping with pride. Some will probably say that this was all just a huge coincidence10). I cant argue with that, nor will I. All I can say is that the rain that came that day saved our farm, just like the actions of one little boy saved another.
