　　As time passes by,fewer people go to see movies. As shown in the table, the number of film-goers in 1975 is 85,000,whereas in 1985 there are only 12,000 people who go to see movies. It is also evident that the number of film-goers keeps decreasing slowly.

　　More and more people like to watch TV due to the rapid development of TV industry. As seen from the table, the number of TV watchers increases from 5,000 in 1975 to 100,000 in 1985. The basic cause of this change is the fast development of TV industry. TV provides more interesting and colorful programs to the watchers. It lets people enjoy themselves at home instead of going out. Various TV Channels offer the watchers more choices of whatever they want to see.

　　Nowadays, millions of migrant workers flock into cities in search of jobs and better living. However, with the sharp rise in the urban population,many problems arise in the development of cities.

　　Firstly, cities become more and more crowded, putting much pressure upon transportation, housing, sanitation, education, employment and so on. City services and facilities have been strained to a breaking point. Secondly, a growing number of private cars emit huge amount of carbon dioxide, leaving the air mercilessly polluted. What is more, the city is also threatened by rising crime. Not a single day passes without the report of someone being robbed, kidnapped or murdered. Last but not least, city-dwellers are not only separated from the natural world but also isolated from each other, even not knowing the name of their next-door neighbor.

　　All these problems have harmed the attractiveness of the city. Unless there is some improvement, more and more people may seek to live in the suburbs.

　　Each spring brings a new blossom of wildflowers in the ditches along the highway I travel daily to work.

　　There is one particular blue flower that has always caught my eye. I‘ve noticed that it blooms only in the morning hours, the afternoon sun is too warm for it. Every day for approximately two weeks, I see those beautiful flowers.

　　This spring, I started a wildflower garden in our yard. I can look out of the kitchen window while doing the dishes and see the flowers. I‘ve often thought that those lovely blue flowers from the ditch would look great in that bed alongside other wildflowers.

　　Everyday I drove past the flowers thinking, "I‘ll stop on my way home and dig them." "Gee, I don‘t want to get my good clothes dirty..." Whatever the reason, I never stopped to dig them. My husband even gave me a folding shovel one year for my trunk to be used for that expressed purpose.

　　One day on my way home from work, I was saddened to see that the highway department had mowed the ditches and the pretty blue flowers were gone. I thought to myself, "Way to go, you waited too long. You should have done it when you first saw them blooming this spring."

　　A week ago we were shocked and saddened to learn that my oldest sister-in-law has a terminal brain tumor. She is 20 years older than my husband and unfortunately, because of age and distance, we haven‘t been as close as we all would have liked.

　　I couldn‘t help but see the connection between the pretty blue flowers and the relationship between my husband‘s sister and us. I do believe that God has given us some time left to plant some wonderful memories that will bloom every year for us.

　　And yes, if I see the blue flowers again, you can bet I‘ll stop and transplant them to my wildflower garden.

However, others argue that sensible abandonment is more precious than blind persistence because the wise one should choose the most suitable area for himself/herself.

　　In my opinion, we need to learn to give up timely. The most immediate reason is that we should adjust our aim carefully in order to go ahead continuously. Sometimes, to give up those unrealistic targets is essential for success. Besides, the attitude “Never give up” exhausts us both mentally and physically. Only through learning to give up can we lead a pleasant and relaxing life. Finally, the temporary comprise means a new start, a beginning bringing new hopes, expectations and opportunities for us.

　　Nowadays there are still many behaviors against public morality, such as spiting or littering in public places, cutting in line, wasting water or electricity and so on.

　　One of the main reasons for these immoral behaviors is that some people lack personal manners and public consciousness. Actually these small things in many people's eyes have brought great bad effects on our community. Above all, these immoral behaviors disturb social order and disrupt socialsbility. Moreover, one's violating public morality not only evades others' benefits but also does harm to himself. For example, if most people buy pirated products, those original producers will suffer great damage and might lose the enthusiasm to continue their producing. 　　It is quite common for parents to beat their children, because they think eating is a good way to make children learn and behave well. One of my neighbors made a very strict demand on his son and scolded him bitterly or smacked him whenever he was lazy or disobedient. To justify what he did, he said,” spare the rod and ruin the child.”

　　Actually beating is a violent way of treating children. It does more harm and causes more hurt than good to children’s physical and psychological health. However, beating children is common occurrence in our life. Many children become disable because their parents hit them too hard. Some lost their hearing and some became lame. Some children develop an internal hatred for their parents and protest by running away from home. Others may become so fearful of their parents that they tremble at the sight of their angry parents. A mother, for example, even went so far as to beat her son to death because she was not satisfied with his study. Likewise, it is not unusual that the child murdered his parents because of the extreme contradiction between them. How can children learn and grow healthily under such circumstance?

　　Quite often parents will be torn by pangs of regret and remorse after they have beaten their children. They feel very sad in the rest of their lives. But it is already too late. How can they bring their handicapped child back to healthy one? How can they relieve pains in their children’s heart so easily? We can say beating hurts both children and parents. It is absolutely a bad way to make children learn and behave well.

　　Exactly speaking, children are also human beings. They have self-respect and should be respected. Parents should understand and guide them by advising, persuading and reasoning.
