Teaching Aims:

2. Through reading the dialogues and passages, improve the Ss’ speaking and reading ability.

3. Let the SS know they should take care of the library books.

4. To be good mannered in the library, try to know how to read the information on the card and the computer screen when they want to find books in the library.

Lesson 1

Properties: Recorder, overhead projector; pictures and some real objects

Teaching aims:

1. Studying the new grammar: the Present Perfect Tense.

2. Learning some new words and useful expressions.

Language focus:

On the shelf---shelves; anywhere; some/any;

Revise greetings. Greet people when they meet.

Ⅲ.Presentation

Hold a pen and some objects, ask some questions like: Do you have a pen?/ an English book? And then ask again with: Have you got a pen? Help the Ss answer with “Yes, I have got one./ Sory/ No, I haven’t got any. Make sure the Ss can answer correctly.

Ⅳ. Practise:

Practise asking and answering in pairs. Then act out the dialogue in pairs. Explain Have + past participle is the form of the Present Perfect Tense.

Ⅴ. Read and act:

Get the Ss to practise the dialogue in pairs, and then get them to change the dialogue with the words in the box. Act the dialogue in front of the class.

Ⅵ. Ask and answer:

Have the Ss work in pairs to ask and answer in pairs.

Ⅶ. Read and ask;

Speech Cassette. Book closed. Ask : Where is Jim’s history book? Play the first dialogue for the Ss to listen and find the answer to the question. Then play the second dialogue for the Ss to listen and ask : Where is Tom’s dictionary? Get the Ss to listen to the tape and find the answer.

Book open get the Ss to repeat after the tape.

Practise the dialogue in pairs. First read, then act it out to share with the whole class.

1. Do Exx 1-2 orally.

2. Do Exx 4 as homework.

Practise asking and answering how to borrow a book in the library in pairs. Then act out the dialogue in pairs.

Ⅴ. Pre-Read :

Have the Ss discuss the questions in pairs .Then ask them to give out their reports to share with the whole class.

Ⅵ. Read.

Part 2. Speech cassette. Ask : “ Why did granny love books? What did she lose? How did her lost book return to the library?

Books closed. Play the tape for the Ss to listen and find the answers to the questions, check the answers with the whole class.

Book open. Have the Ss read the passage silently and use the questions of Ex 1 in the WB to help them understand the passage. Check the answers. Explain some useful expressions: hobby; the lost book; use to; hobby; on many different subjects; knowledge; return the library book; sooner or later; pay for;

Ⅶ.Practice:

Speech Cassette. Book open get the Ss to repeat after the tape. Have the SS read the passage again, try to retell the story of “ The Lost Books”. Get one or two students to share their stories with the whole class.

Ⅷ. Workbook:

1.Do Exx 2 orally in class. Have the Ss write the past formand past participle of the verbs individually, then check in class.

2.Do Exx 3 as homework.

Part 1. Speech Cassette. Book closed. Play the tape for the Ss to listen and know the end of the story. Divide the ss into several groups. Discuss the ways to encourage people to return books, share the ideas in class.

Part2.

Get the Ss to ask and answer in pairs, and then get them to change the dialogue with the words in the box. Act the dialogue in front of the class. Go through the phrases in the box, and make sure the Ss can understand what they mean. Get the Ss to make up questions in pairs and make sure they are asking and answering correctly.

Ⅵ. Practice:

Have the Ss work in pairs to act as Bruce and Mr. Know- All . Act out the dialogue. Explain Mr. Know-All.

Listening cassette. Go through the Ex1 in WB with the Ss. Play the tape for the ss to listen and finish Ex 1 in WB . Play the tape again, get the SS to check their answers. Then check with the whole class.

Ⅳ. Write:

Make an interview. First, act as a librarian. Have the Ss interview the librarian with the help of the questions in the book, then have the Ss write sth about her/him. Ask some SS to read their composition for the class.

Ⅴ. Presentation:

Present this drills with a student:

T: May I help you?

S: Yes, please. I want to borrow a book, but I can’t find it on the shelf.

T: What’s the name of the book?

S: The old man and the sea.

T: Wait a minute. Let me find it on the computer. Oh, it says Jim has got it.

Have the Ss practise the dialogue in pairs. Then make up similar dialogues and act them out.

Play the tape again, have the ss listen and repeat after it.

Book open. Have the Ss practise the dialogue in pairs. Then act it out.

Help the Ss learn to read the information on the card and the computer screen when they want to find books in the library. Get them to look at the example and find the information.

Get the Ss to listen to the tape and read after the tape and try to learn them by heart, and get them to know to protect books.

Go through Checkpoint 1 with the Ss. Solve any problems that the Ss may have. Make sentences with the useful expressions, and make sure that the Ss can use them freely.
