FStep Ⅰ. Greeting and revision

T:Good morning/afternoon,class.

Ss:Good morning/afternoon,teacher.

T:Sit down,please.Yesterday we learnt what we should do and what we oughtn’t do after an accident.Now I ask you some questions.The first question:Should I move a person who is hurt in a traffic accident?

Ss:No.

T:The second question:Should I give the person anything to drink?

Ss:No.

T:What should I do?

S1:You should leave the person where he/she is,telephone for help,…

T:Very good.Do you know more first aid knowledge?

Ss:No.

FStep Ⅱ. Preparation for reading

T:In this class we’ll read about first aid.What’s first aid?It is the medical help which you give to someone immediately after an accident as Chen Wei and Susan did to the girl.You don’t have to be a doctor to give somebody first aid.But you have to know what to do.Before reading,let’s learn the new words on the screen.

(Teacher asks the Ss to read the new words after the tape and to say their Chinese meaning.After that,teacher gives simple explanations.)

T:Now,please write proper words above the line.

(Teacher asks some students to fill in the blanks,then check the answers with the whole class.)

(The answers are boldfaced words.)

T:These words are important,you must remember them.Can you tell me the English meanings of the words:bled,bite,lay,pool?Have a try,please.

FStep Ⅲ. Reading

T:Now please open your books at Page 44.Look at your books and pay attention to the title.You can know this text is divided into two sections-First aid and Safety in the home.OK.Look at the first passage.There are four paragraphs in the passage.Please read the first sentence of each paragraph.Find out what the passage is about.

(Two minutes later,teacher checks the answers,then gives the suggested answers.)

Suggested answers:

Paragraph 1:description of first aid

Paragraph 2:three important things to do

Paragraph 3:common injuries in the home and some advice for dealing with them

Paragraph 4:You need more information.

(Write them on the Bb.)

T:Now I’ll give you another few minutes to read the passage again.After reading,answer some questions on the screen in pairs.Then I’d like some students to give their answers.

(Teacher shows the questions on the screen.)

(A few minutes later)

T:Now please answer my first question:“……”

S6:Because first aid can save a person’s life if it is given quickly and correctly by those who have some knowledge of first aid.

(Teacher asks some other students to answer the other seven questions.)

2.We must try to start his/her breathing at once.You should lay the person on his back,close his nose with your fingers and breathe into his mouth,and repeat this as often as necessary.

3.I think the best thing to make a person breathe again is to use the mouth-to-mouth way.

4.We should try to stop the bleeding.First we should press a handkerchief on to the bleeding point and hold it there.Tie a piece of cloth round the part of body above the bleeding point.

5.We had better wash the wound under cold running water for a few minutes,then dry it with a clean cloth round it,and send him/her to a hospital as soon as possible.

6.We must cool the area of skin at once.Wash the area of skin under the cold tap for several minutes,put a piece of dry clean cloth over the area of the burn.

7.For a simple cut,it is only necessary to wash the area of the cut,dry it and cover it with a piece of dry clean cloth.

8.If we want to get enough first aid knowledge to save people’s lives,we have to study with a teacher.By a few hours of studying,we’ll manage to know enough to save people’s lives.

T:Your answers are excellent.OK.We have learnt the text structure and the details.I think it’s time for us to deal with some language points in this passage.

(Show them on the screen.)

T:In the last sentence,the Subjunctive Mood is used.We use this structure to talk about an imaginary or hypothetical situation.

e.g.If I were you ,I would go to the party.

(Then teacher asks the Ss to listen to the tape and read the passage again.)

FStep Ⅳ. Reading

T:Now let’s read the other passage“Safety in the home”.There are many in structions in the passage and five pictures are given.You read them aloud first and then match them with the pictures.

(After a few minutes,teacher asks the Ss to give the answers.)

T:In this passage,there are a few important points.You must pay attention to them.Please look at the screen.

T:Now turn to Page 109.Let’s do an exercise,Ex.3.Fill in the blanks with the proper words according to the text.Do it as soon as possible.After a while,I’ll check the answers.
