Good morning, everyone. I am an English teacher. The title for my lesson plan is A Chef Cook and His Daughter. Today, I will explain my plan from the following aspects: first, analysis of the teaching material; second, analysis of students; third, saying about the teaching aims; fourth, saying about teaching difficult and important points; fifth, saying about teaching methods and learning methods; sixth, saying about teaching aids; seventh, saying about teaching procedures; eighth, saying about blackboard design. The following is my details.

Ⅰ.Analysis of the teaching material

The article is given by our instructor, Miss Jin. It is a story about a chef cook and his daughter. This class is a reading class. Reading is very important in English. Reading mainly cultivates students’ reading skills; enlarge their knowledge area, learning language points and culture. Through the story, the author intends to tell people to be positive and fight against difficulties bravely. This passage makes students receive education towards the chef and his daughter. In the reading, students have to master some language points, which indicate that learning a language can not be out of specific context.

Ⅱ.Analysis of students

They are students coming from Jiangxi International Middle School. They have learned English for about 6 years. They can understand many words and some sentences. They have taken a great interest in English now. But they need to know more vocabulary and should improve their reading skills.

Ⅲ.Saying about teaching Aims

According to the requirement of the course curriculum to reading and the psychological and physical characteristics of students, the teaching aims are made as:

Language knowledge: To learn the contents of the passage and the usage of language points

Language skills: To master reading skills and writing skills

Emotional attitude: To acquire the positive attitude towards life

Ⅳ.Saying about teaching difficult and important points

For reading, the difficult points are not only to understand some difficult sentences and words, but also to understand the structure of the passage. And also, to understand the purpose of the writing and the main idea are necessary for a successful reading. What’s more, understanding the indicate meaning of some sentence is also hard for students. The difficult and important points in this reading are:

To deal with difficult and important words, phrases, sentences

To understand the indicate meaning of some sentences

To learning language points

To find or conclude main ideas and key information

Ⅴ.Saying about teaching methods and learning methods

The new course reform requires the teacher to care more about learning of the students. That means our teacher not only needs to pay much attention to knowledge learning, but also cares more about the psychological and moral senses of the students. The teacher should care not only how to teach, but also make student know how to learn by themselves. For this reason, my design idea is using task-based teaching method. Specifically, students are required to use skimming to find main idea and scanning to find key information. Also, students need to read the passage in limited time and finish some tasks for their comprehension. For language points, high students have very strong abilities in receiving and concluding knowledge, I will use deductive methods to teach some sentence structure, and use inductive methods to conclude the usage of some words and phrases. I will compare some similar words, phrases, and make students have a clear distinction about their usage.

Ⅵ.Teaching Aids

For reading, it requires teacher has a very good preparation. So, I first design some tasks on my handouts. Second, I will design a table to conclude the main idea of the passage and main idea of every parts of the passage. Besides, I will prepare some questions for students to answer after they have finished reading. So the teaching aids include handouts, a table for reading, excises for language points, textbook, chalks, and blackboard.

VII. Teaching Procedures

Teaching procedures reflect the teacher’s design for his teaching steps. A good teaching procedure requires teachers to design the teaching process naturally and logically. It needs to design to make students accept it as the most easy and economic ways. For reading, the center is how to organize the reading process and deal with the obstacles students meet in reading.

Step one. Lead-in (5minutes)

Lead-in is the basic condition for a successful reading. In this step, the purpose is mainly to initiate the interest of students to read the passage. Different ways can be used to encourage students to read. For this passage, firstly I will show students a video about the Backkom. Then I will ask them a question: What will you do when you face difficulties? The answers may be various. After this I will let students predicate the content through the title. I think it can encourage their cultivate interest.

Step two. Skimming(3minutes)

When we read a passage, firstly, we always deal with the whole passage, which means we make the students have an integrated impression about the passage. So I will make students use skimming to read the whole passage first. In this part, students find the main idea or conclude the main idea of the passage. And students know the content roughly. So in this step, students need to fill the table for the structure and main idea of the passage.

Step three. Scanning (7minutes)

When students have a rough impression about the passage, it is easy for them to find the key information. To scan some key information advances students to comprehend the passage much better. In this step, students are required to finish a gap-filling task.

Step four. Intensive reading (20minutes)

For Chinese high school students, they have to learn some usage of words and phrases in the context. And also, they will meet some difficult points in this passage such as complex sentences and words. To understand the indicated meaning of the words is also hard for students. So the teacher needs to explain above language points and words discreetly. Teachers need to explain the usage of some words and phrases and compare the similar and confused words with them.

Step five. Appreciation of the Passage (5minutes)

New course reform requires that students be cultivated to have integrated abilities, which includes knowledge and emotional education. For that, to appreciate a passage is to understand moral education. Writing skills is based on a lot of language material accumulation. So, analyzing the special writing skills advance students abilities to form integrated language skills.

Step six. Conclusion and Homework (5minutes)

Conclusion makes students know the main contents of the lesson. When we design the conclusion, we need to consider making students understand the contents with the easy way. Homework needs to be designed to suit the lesson. For reading, we need students to write down their education after the lesson. At the same time, we need to consolidate the usage of new language points after class, in case they forget the language points. So I will assign some language points for their exercise.
