the buildings 可用those代替,當前面為不可數名詞或可數名詞的單數時,則用that代替同一性質的事物。

e.g. The weather in the south is always hotter than that in the north.

Step Three Grammar learning

1. Ask the students to turn “small, nice, heavy, big” into comparatives

2. Check the answers:

small -- smaller, nice -- nicer, heavy -- heavier, big – bigger

3. Forcus the students’ attention on the four different ways in which they are formed:

1) small – smaller: just add “-er”

2) nice – nicer: add “-r”

3) heavy – heavier: change “y” into “i” and add “-er”

4) big – bigger: double the final letter and add “-er”

4. Explain that these are regular rules which are always true, and that they should look at the structure of the root addjective in order to decide how to write the comparative form.
